Prime Minister’s Private Industry and Investment Adviser Salman Fazlur Rahman MP has expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Attorney General Mahbubey Alam.
In a condolence message issued on Sunday, Rahman recalled with due respect the outstanding contribution of the state’s chief legal officer to the judiciary.
The PM adviser also said as attorney general Mahbubey Alam safeguarded the interest of the state and as a Bar Council member and president and general secretary of the Supreme Court Bar Association he was devoted to protecting the rights of lawyers.
“At his death the nation has lost a tested and honest lawyer who strived hard to establish rule of law in the country,” Rahman said in the message.
He further said: “I had personal and warm relations with Attorney General Mahbubey Alam and I am expressing deep condolences at his death.”
The PM adviser also prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed profound sympathy to the bereaved family.
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam breathed his last at 7:25pm on Sunday at Dhaka's Combined Military Hospital (CMH) after contracting Covid-19. He was admitted to the hospital on September 4 after being diagnosed with coronavirus.
