BD exports medicines to 145 countries meeting local demand

The pharmaceutical industry of Bangladesh has been making significant contribution to Bangladesh's economy and the sector currently meets around 98 percent of the local demand for medicines, Prime Minister's Adviser on Private Industry and Investment Salman F Rahman MP said on Friday.
He was speaking as the the chief guest at the inaugural function of the three-day Asia Pharma Expo-2020, being held at the International Convention City, Bashundhara in Dhaka. The expo will conclude today (Sunday).
He said currently Bangladeshi medicines are also being exported to 145 countries including the regulated markets of the USA, Europe, and Australia.
Pharma has been declared as the export thrust sector and the government is taking various initiatives to promote the sector to realize its huge export potential.
The Bangladesh Association of Pharmaceuticals Industries (BAPI) in collaboration with GPE Expo Private Limited is holding the 12th version of the exposition.
Indian high commissioner to Bangladesh Riva Ganguly Das, BAPI President Nazmul Hassan MP, and Bangladesh Drug Administration Director General Major General Mahbubur Rahman also spoke at the inaugural session.
