'The potential investors would get approvals for various utility services like power, gas, water and telephone from the centre'
The Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) on Monday launched the One Stop Service (OSS) Centre to provide the investors with all necessary services from a single window.
Bangladesh would make a positive change in the next ‘Ease of Doing Business’ index of the World Bank from the wide range of services through the OSS and help increase the investment from home and abroad, said stakeholders.
In partnership with 14 different ministries and departments, BEZA offers 107 types of government services at BEZA OSS, where unit investors to Economic Zone can complete all the process for investing in any Zones, from application to obtaining licences and approvals from a single place.
By June next year, investors would get 125 types of services under 27 categories from the OSS centre, said Beza Executive Chairman Paban Chowdhury.
The launching was held at Pan Pacific Sonargaon in the capital, where Private Industry and Investment Adviser to the PM Salman F Rahman and other top officials were present.
The Beza executive chairman also said: “This OSS will remove all hassles of investors in completing their official processes for investment.”
He hoped the centre would provide faster services and remove red tape.
“Investors will not need to meet any official physically at my office,” Paban said.
“We submitted a draft act on one stop service in 2015 and finally the government enacted the ‘One Stop Service Act’ last year,” he added.
The potential investors would get approvals for various utility services like power, gas, water and telephone from the centre, he added.
The centre would bring down significantly the time in getting utility services, the BEZA chief said, elaborating that an investor would get power connection in a day while the trade licence in a moment.
He hoped that Bangladesh would enter into a new era with the introduction of the OSS and made a positive change in the ‘Ease of Doing Business’ index of the World Bank.
