Beximco Group Vice-Chairman Salman F Rahman, also private investment affairs adviser to Awami League President Sheikh Hasina, on Saturday inaugurated a medical camp for Rohingyas at Balukhali of Ukhia in Cox’s Bazar.
Over 500,000 Rohingyas have fled to Bangladesh during the last one month facing ethnic cleansing and genocide by the Myanmar security forces in their homeland, Rakhine State. “We have come here to the aid of Rohingya people as per the directives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
We have made an arrangement to provide healthcare services to at least one lakh Rohingya people,” Salman F Rahman told journalists after the inauguration of the camp. He said doctors would be available to provide free of cost medical treatment to men, women and children.
He also expressed hope that other commercial entities of the country would come forward to assist the Rohingya people, who are in dire need. Bangladesh Cricket Board President and managing director of Beximco Pharmaceuticals Limited Nazmul Hassan Papon, MP, who was also present at the programme, said Beximco Textiles has distributed clothes among 4,000 Rohingya families alongside the medical support.
The group has also distributed baby foods among 500 families, he added. Salman F Rahman and Nazmul Hassan Papon also visited Rohingya camps in the area and distributed relief materials there.
They said the medical camp would remain open until the Rohingyas do not return to their homeland in Myanmar. Beximco Group has also made arrangements for prayers, separate for men and women, for the Rohingya people.
